Fashion Accessory
Fashion Accessory
Fashion accessories are decorative items that supplement and complement clothes, such as jewelry, gloves, handbags, hats, belts, scarves, watches, sunglasses, pins, stockings, bow ties, leg warmers, leggings, neckties, suspenders, and tights.
Accessories can add color, style and class to an outfit, and create a certain look, but they can also have a practical function: handbags can be used to carry small items such as cash, hats protect the face in bad weather, and gloves keep hands warm.
Many accessories are produced by clothing design companies. However, there has been an increase in individuals creating their own brand name by designing and making their own label of accessories. Following the internet boom, individuals have been able to sell their own accessories online to anyone across the globe. Handmade unique accessories are in high demand today.
Accessories can be visual symbols of religious affiliation: crucifixes, Jewish stars, Islamic headscarves, skullcaps and turbans are common examples. Designer labels on accessories are perceived by some as an indicator of social status.
Over the centuries fashion accessories have changed and evolved. In 19th century English fashion accessories included items such as The Muff, The Tippet, and Tulle shawls. During this time hats and turbans were also considered fashionable.
The beginning of the 20th century saw radical changes in the way women began to dress. Dress became more practical and meant that accessories didn’t play such a big part in fashion during this time.
In the 1950s fashion accessories become more popular in the western world, with accessories such as fruit corsages to adorn sweaters or hats. Also in the 1950s eyewear began to be used as fashion accessories. The 1950s also saw the rise of the stiletto
Runway (Fashion)
Runway (Fashion)
Runway or catwalk describes a narrow, usually elevated platform that runs into an auditorium, used by models to demonstrate clothing and accessories during a fashion show. In fashion jargon, "what's on the catwalk" or similar phrasing can refer to whatever is new and popular in fashion.
Fashion Week
Fashion Week
A fashion week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, which allows fashion designers, brands or "houses" to display their latest collections in runway shows and buyers to take a look at the latest trends. Most importantly, it lets the industry know what's "in" and what's "out" for the season. The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the four fashion capitals of the world: New York City, London, Milan, and Paris.

According to the Global Language Monitor, New York City came in first for five consecutive years; yet in 2009, it was beaten by Milan, Italy, before reclaiming the title of top fashion capital in 2010. Despite the fact that the fashion of these two cities concentrates more on economic and media success, rather than beauty and elegance, both these cities have longstanding traditions of excellence and creativity in design (especially Milan since it is the home of some of the most famous fashion artists in the world, such as Versace, Armani, Dolce e Gabbana and many others), and have both been important historical centers of artistic fashion design for many years. Milanese fashion is regarded as being practical, but elegant and highly refined at the same time, concentrating more on stylish ready-to-wear clothes, rather than extravagant haute couture. This applies similarly to New York. However, both cities also have upscale haute couture and high fashion shopping districts.
London and Paris are considered symbolic fashion centres of Europe due to them having long standing histories as centers of art and fashion, and being home to several highly prestigious fashion houses. The cities are perhaps best known for the prestige and elegance of their fashion designs, rather than for their practicality and economic success. (London-based fashion designs are known for their extravagant quirkiness, while Parisian designs are regarded for their elegant and formal nature)
The other main centers of fashion in the world are Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Rome, Sydney, Tokyo, Düsseldorf, Barcelona, Las Vegas, Toronto, Shanghai, and Dubai. In recent years, however, the importance of the fashion industry has grown in many other cities around the globe, such as Chicago, São Paulo and Sydney.
